Paint Markers

Whether you’re a creative professional or a hobby artist, acrylic paint markers are versatile and easy to use. They contain paint instead of ink and make a perfect addition to your art essentials, adding vibrant colours to your next project. Plus, they’re durable, fast-drying and resist smudging or fading over time.

At Art Store Online, we stock the brands preferred by professions, including Liquitex, POSCA and many more.

 Choosing paint markers

Use acrylic paint markers on anything! Paper, wood, metal, glass — you name it.

Water-based pens are non-toxic and easy to wash off, so they’re perfect for school classrooms, beginners or when creating temporary artwork. Draw peoples’ attention to a glass window or store front with an eye-grabbing design, then wipe away with ease.

The disadvantage is that water-based varieties can soak into porous surfaces like wood and fabrics and often need several coats. A Uni POSCA pen is better suited to permanently coat any surface despite being water-based.

How long do they take to dry?

The exact drying time will vary depending on the type and brand you are using, as well as environmental factors such as humidity and temperature. Generally, they take about 1-3 minutes to dry and will be fully dry within 24 hours.

What are some tips for using paint markers?

- Shake the marker well before use to ensure the paint is mixed properly.

- Test them on a scrap piece of paper or cardboard before using it on your project.

- Apply light pressure for thin lines and more pressure for thicker lines.

- If it seems to be clogged, clean the tip with rubbing alcohol.

- Use a sealant spray to protect your finished project.

What are some things to avoid?

- Avoid using on porous surfaces, as they may bleed or soak into the material.

- Do not leave the cap off for extended periods of time, as this can cause the tip to dry out.

- Do not use it on surfaces that will come in contact with food or beverages, and always check the label for safety information.

- Avoid leaving the markers in hot or direct sunlight, as this can cause the paint to melt or separate. Store in a cool, dry place.

They also have a wide tip for creating broad strokes and bold, striking lines compared to a fine nib.

The main difference between the two is the tip. Paint markers typically have a chisel or wedge-shaped tip, while pens often have a fine-point.
